Antique Persian Bakhshayesh Runner 311 × 80 cm, circa 1890

Origin: Persia
Age: circa 1890
Size: 311 × 80 cm
Material: Wool

A characterful late 19th-century antique Persian Bakhshayesh runner, hand-knotted in wool and dating to circa 1890. Its narrow proportions and distinctive village weaving make it a particularly attractive antique runner for a hallway, entrance or landing.

The design features a striking sequence of elongated geometric medallions arranged along the field, surrounded by angular tribal motifs. Rich brick red and terracotta tones are balanced by beautiful blue, ivory, brown and soft green details, with a contrasting ivory-ground geometric border.

More than 130 years of age have given the rug wonderful natural wear and patina, with areas of lower pile that add to its authentic antique character. The bold drawing, individual colour variations and long narrow proportions make it an expressive one-of-a-kind piece.

A distinctive antique Bakhshayesh runner with genuine age, beautiful colour and the wonderfully individual character associated with early Persian village weaving.
