A beautiful antique Persian Heriz rug, hand-knotted in wool and dating from circa 1920.

The rug features a striking traditional Heriz composition centred around a large geometric medallion, surrounded by angular floral and botanical motifs. A warm terracotta-red field forms the foundation of the design, complemented by soft ivory, muted sage green, pale blue, dusty coral and deep brown accents.

The strongly drawn central medallion and architectural geometric forms are characteristic of Heriz weaving, while the beautifully softened colours and areas of natural wear give the rug an especially attractive antique character. A series of decorative borders filled with stylised floral motifs frames the composition and adds further depth and definition.

Hand-knotted in wool, the rug has developed a wonderfully aged surface and natural patina over more than a century. At 340 × 240 cm, it is a versatile large rug suitable for a sitting room, dining room, drawing room, bedroom or study.
