A beautiful antique Persian Mahal rug, hand-knotted in wool and dating from circa 1920.

The rug features an elegant ivory field filled with an intricate all-over arrangement of stylised floral, palmette and scrolling vine motifs. The light central ground is beautifully contrasted by rich terracotta-red borders, with further accents of navy blue, soft blue, muted coral, olive green and warm beige.

A series of finely detailed floral borders surrounds the central field, giving the rug excellent definition while maintaining a balanced and refined overall appearance. The combination of the lighter field, richly coloured border and naturally softened antique tones gives this Mahal a particularly decorative character.
