Antique Persian Mahal Rug 380 × 278 cm, circa 1920
Origin: Persia
Age: Circa 1920
Size: 380 × 278 cm
Material: Wool
A beautiful antique Persian Mahal rug, hand-knotted in wool and dating from circa 1920.
The rug features a richly detailed all-over design centred around a warm terracotta-red field, filled with repeating floral, paisley and stylised botanical motifs. Deep indigo and navy blues provide strong definition throughout the design, complemented by soft blue, olive green, ivory, muted coral and warm earthy tones.
The main field is framed by an elegant multi-layered border with repeating floral and geometric motifs, creating a beautifully balanced composition. The finely drawn pattern, generous proportions and wonderfully aged colour palette give this Mahal rug the distinctive decorative character that makes antique Persian rugs particularly appealing in both traditional and contemporary interiors.
Hand-knotted in wool, the rug has developed the natural character and patina associated with an antique piece of this age. At 380 × 278 cm, its generous proportions make it particularly suitable for a large sitting room, dining room, drawing room, library or spacious bedroom.
A one-of-a-kind antique Persian Mahal rug combining traditional craftsmanship, an intricate all-over design and a particularly rich yet beautifully aged colour palette.
